Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic in The Royal University of Bhutan
Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic or JNP is one of the constituent Colleges of The Royal University of Bhutan. It was founded in 1972 and was formerly known as the Royal Bhutan Polytechnic, which was later in the year 2006 was changed to its present name which is, Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic. JNP is located in Dewathang in the district of Samdrup Jongkhar.
Programs to Study in Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic
Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic provides with several disciplines and programs to study. These are:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering with duration of 2.5 years- Fulltime
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering with duration of 2.5 years- Fulltime
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with duration of 2.5 years- Fulltime
- Diploma in Computer Hardware and Networking
In addition, JNP will also offer diploma in Survey Engineering and Electronics and Communications. At present there are more than 600 students and 83 faculty staff who are part of Jime Namgyel Polytechnic.
Research in Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic
Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic is also a research centre. It is Bhutan’s only Centre for Appropriate Technology or CAT. It has developed a prototype user friendly solar dryer that can be used in the rural areas of Samdrup Jongkhar.
