Sherubtse College

The Sherubtse College was established in the year 1968 as a Public School, which makes it one of the oldest Colleges of The Royal University of Bhutan. It is situated at Kanglung in the district of Trashigang in east Bhutan. Besides being the oldest College of RUB, it is also the largest College. After establishing as a Public School, Sherubtse became a junior College in 1976 and then change again to become a constituent College of The Royal University of Bhutan in 2003. Now a lush green campus, Sherubtse consists of a rural flavour and offers several courses to students. The College is only 10 minutes drive from the Yongphula Airport.

Schools in Sherubtse College

Sherubtse College has five schools to administer different departments in the College. Each School has its own developmental feature that makes it unique from the other. read below to know more about them.

School of Mathematics and Computer Science

The objective of the Schools of Mathematics and Computer Science is to develop students into technocrats and IT experts, to be able to play a leading role in the information society. Moreover, students who graduate from the school of Mathematics and Computer get a variety of career opportunities, some of which includes employment  the Royal Civil Services, corporation and private firms.

School of Arts and Humanities

The School of Arts and Humanities manages four departments, namely Department of Dzongkha, Department of History, Department of English and Department of Media Studies. Students can choose from different combinations of subjects offered by the school. Thus, providing students with opportunities to take up the courses of their choice and amplifying career prospects.

With demands for media professionals in different areas, the School of Arts and Humanities started a program in Media Studies.

School of Life Science

The School of Life Sciences offers several degree programs in the field of Biological Sciences. Various programs under this school were developed to cater to the needs of country and implement with the on going demands of international standards. Students are taught by different processes of teaching, learning and research.

School of Physical Sciences

The School of Physical Sciences was established to progress in the field of sciences and develop a strong root of science and technology in the country. The School of Physical Sciences prepares students with a basic foundation of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to expose students to their principles and help them to reach full academic potential.

A wide list of career prospects are open for students graduating from the School of Physical Science, some of which includes employment as engineers, ICT officers, teachers, statisticians, planning officers and geologist, etc.

School of Social Science

It is one of the leading academic institution for training and development in Sherubtse College. The School of Social Science or SSS consists of five departments,

Research in Sherubtse College

The Sherubtse College also provides with an active Research centre to students. It is promoted by annual college research fund and managed in three categories, namely, College Research Grant, School Research Grant, and Director’s Research Grant. The College also has well- developed research centres to support research in the areas of population studies and climate change.

Academic Calendar of Sherubtse College

Sherubtse College consists of two major semesters, which are, Spring Semester and Autumn Semester. The Spring Semester starts from February and continues till June, while the Autumn Semester starts from July and continues till December. At the end of each semester, students and staff leaves for summer and winter vacations respectively.
